The original plan for this morning was to go for a bush walk with some aboriginal leaders. However, we got our first rainy day which flooded the lands and cancelled our walk. The most unfortunate part of this in my opinion was that we did not know the walk was cancelled until we had already gotten up early (6am) and gotten dressed. Since we were all up, we decided to go ahead with breakfast anyway and then hung out to hear what the plan B would be.
We were eventually told that Plan B would be to go to a beach to see some wild kangaroo and then to a nearby town for lunch and shopping. I was feeling very tired at this point and decided to stay back at our cabin instead and take a nap and read. It was a wonderful morning and very restorative.
In the afternoon, the rest of the group returned and we settled in for some group quiet time. I was sitting on our couch reading and I happened to look out the window and saw a kangaroo! We had seen a few when volunteering at Kirsten’s place and on our bush walk with Kaitlyn, but never this close up. The kangaroo sniffed around our paddle boat and then came right up to the balcony to see me. He then turned and started hopping towards the dock where a few members of the group were watching. We had a few minutes of panic when he hopped out on the dock - effectively cornering the four people out there - but eventually we got him to turn around and hop the other way towards the building where he spent some time staring at the people on the other decks and then hopping off. It was such a surreal experience and probably my favorite so far.
The rest of the afternoon we spent time around our table talking and then watched some movies and made dinner together. I am sad to leave this place as it has been my favorite so far, but also looking forward to the adventures still to come.
